LOGIC media solutions supports WDR in modernization of broadcaster's own WAN network
As a first step, we equipped the Bocklemünd sites and the headquarters at the Rechtschule with Nevion Virtuoso units, orchestrated the WAN network with VideoIPath and put it into operation.
WDR is continuing to modernize its broadcaster-owned WAN network. In order to realize uncompressed signal transmission, a Nevion Virtuoso unit has been integrated into the network at each of the WDR sites in Bocklemünd and at the Rechtschule, realizing the signal transmission between the two sites in ST2110. The WAN network is controlled by Nevion's Orchestrator and sets the multicast routes in the backbone. During productions, signals are sent from the sports event production sites to the WDR production site in Bocklemünd. Likewise, the system sends a program signal back to the broadcast center in the Rechtschule. To ensure maximum reliability, the streams are sent redundantly over the network. For this purpose, the VideoIPath software is used for control and orchestration.
The new solution was used for the first time at the Ski Jumping World Cup in Wisla at the beginning of November and, as expected, the production went off without a hitch. For the future, LOGIC media solutions will continue to advise on the expansion of the WDR infrastructure. The long-term goal of the modernization is to establish an orchestrated backbone across all routers of the WDR RegioNet, using ST2110 and controlled by VideoIPath.
