GreenTech innovation competition kick-off event - Green Streaming research project

The starting point has been set. The kick-off event for the GreenTech innovation competition took place at the Digital Technologies Forum. Our research project "Green Streaming - Context-based video encoding for an energy-efficient and sustainable streaming supply chain", which we are conducting together with our partners Fraunhofer Institute for Open Communication Systems FOKUS, KlimAktiv gGmbH, Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg, Deutsche Telekom AG and The Chainless GmbH, is funded by the BMWK and we presented it at the event.

The picture shows Robert Seeliger, project manager at the Fraunhofer Institute for Open Communication Systems, receiving the funding certificate from Dr. Franziska Brantner, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection.

At the event, visitors were able to get to know the projects and find interfaces to their own specialist topics. The program offered lectures, panel discussions and workshops on current issues relating to digital technologies. With the Green Streaming project, we are investigating how technically more efficient video streaming can provide the basis for a more energy-efficient and therefore more sustainable streaming value chain. Due to the continuous increase in media consumption via the Internet through video streaming services, energy efficiency and sustainability in the production, distribution and playback of digital media along the entire value chain are becoming increasingly important in order to record and minimize the CO2 footprint of streaming solutions.
